2009 Traminette “Defiance Station”
“Missouri White Table Wine”

Our Traminette commemorates the golden age of American railroads when Irish and German immigrants rode the rails westward. Lots of Germans settled here along the Katy. The Missouri River Valley reminded them of the Rhine. Our Traminette is a Gwertztraminer hybrid. It grows better here than its famous ancestor. It produces a clear off-dry fruity wine as found in the Rhine and Mosel valleys.

The Vintage      The Traminette grape is a hybrid created in 1968 at Cornell University’s Experimental Research Sation in Geneva, NY. Hybridized from Gewurztraminer and Joannes Seyve 23,416. Exhibits a cold hardiness and resistance to disease superior to its lauded Gewurztraminer parent.

The Wine      An off-dry white in the German Traminer style brings out a spice and floral aroma. Your taste buds will suggest apricots, passion fruit, and pears with an overall fruity taste. It’s a great summer wine served chilled.

Food Affinities      Traminette pairs well with light, fine cheeses, white-sauce pastas and all kinds of vegetables. A nice complement to
marinated pork tenderloin, roast chicken, turkey, veal, ham, and
sausage. Works with fruit dishes,
and spicy recipes, too.
